All though we prefer to remain anonymous and always keep the focus on God, it is important to share some of our story in order to show where the inspiration for ConvictMinistry came from. In April of 2013 our family woke up to a knock on the door and several officers with guns drawn standing at the front of our house. My wife and 6 of our 7 children were just waking up (our oldest had already left for school), I was not home at the time, but the officers were looking for me. Through this ordeal my family experienced the US Justice system and the many areas where it fails to protect its taxpaying, law abiding citizens and their families. It was God's plan to put us through this test, a trial where my wife was innocent but yet incarcerated for 50 days away from our children all in the pursuit of the governments attempt to apply pressure and get money. Because neither of us had any prior criminal history this was a new experience. Through God's grace, my wife and I, all though separated, were simultaneously drawn closer to God. It was an awakening that we needed to draw nearer to him in order to experience everything God has to offer. Jailhouse religion 'is' real, and Satan is the only one whispering to prisoners that it is not. Some of the most powerful prayers I ever experienced were with my brothers in jail. Behind those walls I felt the Holy Spirit moving like never before, as my wife would say, 'I was God-smacked', what a blessing -Praise God! Not only were we reprioratizing our lives, our children were growing closer to God as well. All though my heart broke for the kids having both of their parents taken from them, God put peace in our hearts that he had our babies in the palm of his hand while we were away. He had formed a hedge of protection around our home. He was touching them in the same way he had us. He had our full attention now! We were Christians, but had we been living the way God wanted us to? could we do better? We were classic 'back sliders'. At night the children would have a prayer circle with their Grandma, giving thanks, praying, and asking to have their parents returned to them. I joined Bible Study at my first stop in the Federal Detention Center, and once I arrived in the district where my case was we started a nightly prayer circle.
What is a CfC?
My wife was preaching and fasting where she was held, leading others to the Bible. The children were amazingly strong through this difficult time. Talking to them on the phone was such a 'blessing' and it strengthened us. Not being able to hold them physically was tough, but the sound of their voices was heaven. God gave me what I needed to persevere. Through all of this we saw other prisoners who didnt know God, or who knew him but not on the same level. I myself was being mentored by great Christian men. Not being 'Christ' centered and not having a family unit for support was a common theme among many inmates. Through this ministry our mission is to help those who dont have that support, and to teach others through inmates who do know God that you and your family can have joy and use your situation and your own mess as your message to draw others nearer to Christ. Behind the concrete walls I was able to not only function by leaning on God, but to grow stronger through his word and feel his joy. Our goal is to use our experience and our renewed walk with God to help inmates and families of inmates to not 'just cope', but to discover the true meaning of their lives and to grow stronger in their faith and love for one another. Being 'Christ' centered is the key. On our journey we crossed paths with prisoners that are true friends and will be part of our family for life. Some of those Brothers and Sisters in Christ will be contributing partners to this site. Praying together, reading his word daily, and doing God's work here on earth will set you free! CfC stands for 'Convicts For Christ'. You dont have to be convicted in the criminal justice system to be CfC, you only have to have a 'conviction' for our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. When you are convicted in a court of law, you are 'found guilty' of a crime. If you are 'guilty' of loving God and have a life sentence being 'convicted' for his purpose, you have eternal life and are saved by grace. Let your conviction for Christ be the center of your life and guide your footsteps daily. Through this process you will feel more love and joy than you ever imagined possible while finding out the 'true' meaning of your life.
